The Apprentice loser Gavin Winstanley blames Yellow Pages for exit
The 27-year-old was given the boot by Lord Sugar when his team lost this week’s task by just £8, after failing to obtain enough items at the right prices for the Savoy Hotel.
In the boardroom Lord Sugar criticised his leadership style, saying he had lost control of his team during this week’s buying task, in which the teams were sent out in search of luxury items such as loose-leaf tea and chandelier candles.
But the 27-year-old optician said he was confused by the business directory differences in the capital.
‘I’m from Liverpool and we only have one Yellow Pages in Liverpool,' he told Metro.
'I’ve never known any different. So when it came to looking for all these businesses, I just assumed we were looking at the same one.
'But people were looking at Yellow Pages from central London, Greater London and all over the place. It was disjointed. That was one of the key things.
After spending £1,389.20 on six items – completely failing to get four of the products they were supposed to find – Gavin’s team Logic lost out by a tiny margin to rival team Venture, who managed to get hold of nine out of 10 item, spending £1,381.69.

Predictably, Gavin was less than happy about Lord Sugar’s decision to fire him, citing Vincent Disneur as the candidate he thought should have gone.
‘I thought it may come down to whether Lord Sugar would prefer me or Vincent as his business partner, and with me having the experience of growing my own business I thought he would have gone for me,’ said Gavin, who runs his own designer opticians.
He added: ‘I've never worked with anyone like Vincent before. There's not many people like him where I'm from. He's ultra confident and where I come from, being ultra confident, most people always think it is arrogance. I personally don't think it is arrogance.
‘It's just that I didn't have experience with people with that much confidence in how he looks, how he dresses, how he talks, and how he works.’
But there was one element of his performance that Gavin readily admits was less than perfect. The optical tycoon says he will ‘never live down’ the fact that he went into a dry-cleaner’s looking for a top hat in tonight’s episode .
